cross·bow / ˈkrôsˌbō/ • n. a medieval bow of a kind that is fixed across a wooden support and has a groove for the bolt and a mechanism for drawing and releasing the string. DERIVATIVES: cross·bow·man / -ˌbōmən/ n. (pl. -men) .
