quart / kwôrt/ • n. 1. a unit of liquid capacity equal to a quarter of a gallon or two pints, equivalent in the U.S. to approx. 0.94 liter and in Britain to approx. 1.13 liters. ∎  a unit of dry capacity equivalent to approx. 1.10 liters. 2. (also quarte) Fencing the fourth of eight standard parrying positions. 3. (in piquet) a sequence of four cards of the same suit.
