gal·lon / ˈgalən/ • n. 1. a unit of volume for liquid measure equal to four quarts, in particular: ∎ U.S. equivalent to 3.79 liters. ∎  (also imperial gallon) Brit. (also used for dry measure) equivalent to 4.55 liters. 2. (gallons of) inf. a large volume: gallons of fake blood. DERIVATIVES: gal·lon·age / -nij/ n.

gallon A unit of volume. The imperial gallon is 4.546 litres, and the US (Queen Anne) gallon is 3.7853 litres; therefore 1 imperial gallon = 1.2 US gallons.
