Victoria
Victoria City on se Vancouver Island, capital of British Columbia province, sw Canada. Founded in 1843, Victoria developed during the 1858 gold rush as a supply base for prospectors. Industries: timber, paper, shipbuilding, fishing, tourism. It also has a large naval base. Pop. (2001) 74,125.
