an·thro·poid / ˈan[unvoicedth]rəˌpoid/ • adj. resembling a human being in form. ∎  Zool. of or relating to the group of higher primates, which includes monkeys, apes, and humans. ∎  Zool. (of an ape) belonging to one of the families of great apes. ∎ inf. , derog. (of a person) apelike in appearance or behavior. • n. Zool. a higher primate (suborder Anthropoidea), esp. an ape or apeman. ∎ inf. , derog. a person that resembles an ape.
