vegetation mosaic

vegetation mosaic The pattern of different plant communities, or stages of the same community. The term is applied particularly to communities that show cyclical change, e.g. heathlands (Calluna cycle), or raised bogs (hummock-and-hollow cycle), with examples of all stages being present together in a typically extensive and well-developed community.
