Tenerife

Tenerife Largest of the Canary Islands, Spain, in the Atlantic Ocean, 64km (40mi) wnw of Grand Canary Island. It is a mountainous island, rising to Pico de Teide at 3718m (12,198ft). Products include dates, sugar cane, palms, and cotton. Tourism is the mainstay of the economy. The main town is Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Area: 2059sq km (795sq mi). Pop. (2001) 856,808.
