Trivandrum

Trivandrum (Triruvananthapuram) Seaport on the Malabar Coast, sw India; largest city and capital of Kerala state. It served as capital of Travancore kingdom from 1745. and has an 18th-century fort that contains palaces and fine Hindu temples. Industries: tyres, tiles, plywood, titanium products, textiles, soap, wood and ivory products. Pop. (2001) 744,739.
