Kiddush

Kiddush (kĬd´əsh) [Heb.,=sanctification], Jewish ceremonial blessing indicating the beginning of the Sabbath or any other Hebrew festival. Kiddush is also said at mealtime and consists of a prayer of benediction over the occasion and the wine or bread.

Kiddush

Kiddush (Heb., ‘sanctification’). Prayer recited over a cup of wine to sanctify the Sabbath or festivals. It is forbidden to eat on a Sabbath or festival until the Kiddush has been recited.

Kiddush

Kiddush Blessing recited before a meal on the eve of the Jewish Sabbath or of a festival. The head of the household says the prayer over a cup of wine, which is then passed around.
