Dives

Dives a poetic or literary term for a rich man, deriving (in late Middle English) from late Latin, used in the Vulgate translation of the Bible, in the story in Luke ch. 16 of the rich man and the beggar Lazarus (see Lazarus).

Dives (dī´vēz) [Lat.,=rich], traditional name of the unnamed rich man of the parable in the Gospel of St. Luke.
