Bartlett, William Henry

William Henry Bartlett, 1800–1854, English painter and illustrator. After four visits to the United States, Bartlett illustrated a book, American Scenery (1840), with panoramic vistas of the American landscape. During his travels, he also executed drawings of Jerusalem for a book about the Holy Land.

Monk, William (Henry) (b London, 1823; d London, 1889). Eng. composer and organist. Choirmaster King's College, London, 1847, organist 1849, prof. of vocal mus. 1874. Ed., 1861, of Hymns Ancient and Modern. Wrote mus. of hymn Abide with me (‘Eventide’).
