Cox, David

David Cox, 1783–1859, English landscape painter, a follower of John Constable. He is best known for his watercolors of Welsh scenery, of which he produced a great number. Cox is well represented in the British and the Victoria and Albert museums and in the Birmingham Art Gallery.

Cox, David (Vassall) (b Broadstairs, 1916; d Pratt's Bottom, London, 1997). Eng. composer, pianist, and critic. Mus. organizer, BBC External Services 1956–76. Comps. incl. many choral and vocal works, opera The Children in the Forest. Author of book on Debussy (1974) and history of the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts (1980).
