dead·beat / ˈdedˌbēt/ • n. inf. a person who tries to evade paying debts. ∎  (also deadbeat dad) a man who avoids paying child support. ∎  an idle, feckless, or disreputable person. • adj. (of a clock escapement or other mechanism) without recoil.
