chug1 / chəg/ • v. (chugged , chug·ging ) [intr.] emit a series of regular muffled explosive sounds, as of an engine running slowly: he could hear the pipes chugging. ∎  [intr.] (of a vehicle or boat) move slowly making such sounds: a cabin cruiser was chugging down the river. • n. a muffled explosive sound or a series of such sounds. chug2 (also chug·a·lug or chug-a-lug / ˈchəgəˌləg/ ) • v. (chugged , chug·ging ) [tr.] inf. consume (a drink) in large gulps without pausing.
