Arquitectonica. American architectural firm founded in 1977 by Peru-born Bernardo Fort-Brescia (1951– ), his wife, the US-born Laurinda Hope-Spear (1950– ), and Hervin A. Romney (who left the partnership in 1984). Their works include Spear House, Miami (1976–8); the Atlantis Condominium, Miami (1980–2); the Mulder House (1983–5) and the Banco de Crédito (1983–8), both in Lima, Peru; the North Dade Justice Center, Miami (1984–7); the Banque de Luxembourg Headquarters, Luxembourg (1994); the Center for Innovative Technology, Herndon, Va. (1985–8); and Miami International Airport (1997). Their US Embassy, Lima, Peru (1993–5), is clad in coloured panels which, with the allusions to irregular cyclopean masonry, suggest pre-Columbian precedents, although their work is in the mainstream of new Modernist architecture.
