Old School
Old School ★★½ 2003 (R)
Thirty-something pals Mitch (Wilson), Frank (Ferrell), and Beanie (Vaughn) start a frat at the nearby college so they can have a place to escape their everyday troubles. Mitch's girlfriend hosts orgies during his business trips, the recently-married Frank longs for beery bachelor freedom, and Beanie has never grown up despite having a nice family and owning an electronics store chain. Nonsensical plot threads lead only to frat-boy fun and confrontation with the dean, a stereotypical villain who used to be the butt of their jokes. Despite the plot breakdowns and generally one-dimensional characters, everyone, including the audience, manages to have a pretty good time, thanks largely to the likeability of the cast. Vaughn plays Beanie as if Trent from “Swingers” had ended up with a wife and two kids. 90m/C VHS, DVD, HD DVD .
