Inchon
Inchon City and port on the Yellow Sea, nw South Korea. It was first opened for foreign trade in the 1880s. It was the scene of a Russo-Japanese naval battle in 1904, and US forces landed there at the beginning of the Korean War in 1950. It is one of South Korea's major commercial centres. Industries: iron and steel, textiles and chemicals. Pop. (2000 est.) 2,476,000.
