philopatry

philopatry The tendency of an individual to return to or stay in its home area. Most animal species show some degree of philopatry, and one sex may show it to a greater degree than the other (e.g. male birds and female mammals tend to be more philopatric than those of the opposite sex). Compare dispersal.
