mesofauna

mesofauna Generally, animals of intermediate size, including small, invertebrate animals found in the soil, characteristically Annelida, Arthropoda, Nematoda, and Mollusca. These organisms are readily removed from a soil sample using a Tullgren funnel or similar device. Compare MACROFAUNA; MEIOFAUNA; MICROFAUNA.
