Ethiopian faunal region Often called the Afrotropical faunal region, an area that corresponds with sub-Saharan Africa, although it is not completely separated from the neighbouring faunal regions; generally it is taken to include the southwest corner of the Arabian peninsula. Varied game animals are found there; and there are a number of endemic families, including various rodents and shrews, giraffe, hippopotamus, aardvark, tenrec, and lemurs.
