dry-matter production

dry-matter production The expression of plant or animal productivity in terms of the dry weight of material produced per unit area during a specified time period. It is a more easily achieved, though technically less accurate, measure of organic production than are calorific values; in the latter, the inorganic (ash) component can be separated.
