aeropalynology The study of pollen grains and spores in the atmosphere. This is important for allergy studies (e.g. of hay fever), and for understanding the spread of diseases in humans, other animals, and agricultural plants; and recently for palaeoecologists attempting to improve the interpretation of microfossil data.
