streptomycin

strep·to·my·cin / ˌstreptəˈmīsin/ • n. Med. an antibiotic produced by the bacterium Streptomyces griseus. It was the first drug to be successful against tuberculosis but is now chiefly used with other drugs because of its toxic side effects.
