hair·cut / ˈheərˌkət/ • n. 1. the style in which a person's hair is cut. ∎  an act of cutting a person's hair. 2. a reduction in the stated value of an asset in order to determine the collateral or market value.3. the amount, usually a percentage, by which an asset is reduced: what is the haircut on Foreign Denominated Securities Positions for the Euro? ∎  any ad hoc reduction in value: if you paid in dollars, they were going to give you a haircut of about 20 percent.
