Jung, Carl Gustav
Jung, Carl Gustav (1875–1961) A Swiss
psychologist and
psychoanalyst, for some time Sigmund
Freud's heir apparent, although he eventually split from Freud in 1913, after disagreeing in particular about the importance of sexuality. His work is considered more spiritual than Freud's, offering analyses of the
life-cycle and
symbolism, and by comparison remains curiously ignored by sociologists. Anthony Storr's
Jung (1986) is a good introduction to his work.
