ovovivipary

ovovivipary The method of reproduction in which young develop from eggs retained within the mother's body but separated from it by the egg membranes. The eggs contain considerable yolk which provides nourishment for the developing embryo. Many insect groups, fish, and reptiles reproduce in this way. compare OVIPARY; VIVIPARY.
