-idae A standardized suffix used to indicate a family of animals in the recognized codes of classification. For example, ‘Felidae’ is the cat family (including lions, tigers, lynxes, pumas, etc.), and ‘Canidae’ the dog family (including foxes, jackals, and wolves).
