Synbranchidae
Synbranchidae (swamp eel; subclass Actinopterygii, order Synbranchiformes) A small family of freshwater and brackish-water fish that have a very elongate, eel-like body, small eyes, and little developed
dorsal and
anal fins confluent with the tail fin. Because of the modifications of the gill apparatus, some species can utilize atmospheric oxygen when the swamp water is depleted of it. Swamp eels are considered valuable food fish in Asia. There are about eight species, distributed in Asia, Africa, and S. America.
