Synaphobranchidae

Synaphobranchidae (cut-throat eel; superorder Elopomorpha, order Anguilliformes) A small family of marine fish that have an eel-like body covered with scales, a large mouth, and well-developed pectoral fins, the dorsal and anal fins being confluent with the tail fin. The gill openings are placed close together on the under-side of the throat. They tend to be deep-sea fish. There are about 11 species, distributed world-wide.
