Pleistocene The first of two epochs of the
Quaternary, that is held conventionally to have lasted from approximately 1.8 Ma ago until the beginning of the
Holocene, about 10 000 years ago, but recent evidence from deep-sea cores may necessitate a revision of the earlier date. The epoch is marked by several glacial and interglacial episodes in the northern hemisphere.
