Oriolidae (Old World orioles; class Aves, order Passeriformes) A family of mainly yellow and black, red and black, or green birds which have stout, red, blue, or black bills. Many Oriolus species have yellow and black males and green females (the golden oriole is O. oriolus); orioles of the genus Sphecotheres have bare, red skin around the eye. Orioles are arboreal, feed on insects and fruit, and nest in trees. There are two genera, with 28 species (of which 24 belong to the genus Oriolus), many of them migratory, found in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australasia.
