Études symphoniques

Études symphoniques (Symphonic Studies). Schumann's Op.13 for pf. solo with orig. title Etuden im Orchester-Charakter von Florestan und Eusebius, comp. 1834–7, rev. 1852, first pubd. 1837, ded. to Sterndale Bennett. The first version contained 12 studies; in 1852, Schumann omitted Nos. 2 and 9 and rewrote finale. Wieck's 1862 edn. restored Nos. 2 and 9. Five further variations, orig. suppressed, have since been discovered and are included in some perfs.
