Walsh, Thomas (Joseph)

Walsh, Thomas (Joseph) (b Wexford, 1911; d Wexford, 1988). Irish writer on music and anaesthetist. Founded Wexford Fest. 1951, when Balfe's Rose of Castille was prod. Art. dir. 1951–66. Author Opera in Old Dublin 1819–38 (1952), Opera in Dublin 1705–97 (1973), Monte Carlo Opera 1879–1909 (1975), Second Empire Opera: the Théâtre Lyrique, Paris, 1851–70 (1981), Monte Carlo Opera 1910–51 (1985), Opera in Dublin 1798–1820: Frederick Jones and the Crow Street Theatre (1993, posth.).
