Vesalli Icones (Images of Vesalius). Th. piece by Maxwell Davies for dancer, solo vc., and ens. (incl. motor horn, anvil, saucepan, knife-grinder, out-of-tune pf.). Comp. 1969. F.p. London 1969, cond. composer. Its 14 dances are based on the anatomical drawings by the physician Vesalius in his De humani corporis fabrica (1543), with the 14 Stations of the Cross superimposed on the Vesalian images.
