Traviata, La (The Fallen Woman, or The Woman Gone Astray). Opera in 3 acts by Verdi to lib. by Piave based on Dumas fils's play La Dame aux camélias (1852), based in turn on his partly autobiographical novel of the same name (1848). Comp. 1852–3, rev. 1854. Prod. Venice 1853, London and NY 1856.
