Sanderson, Sibyl

Sanderson, Sibyl (b Sacramento, 1865; d Paris, 1903). Amer. soprano. Début (as Ada Palmer) The Hague 1888 in title-role of Manon. Massenet wrote Esclarmonde (1889) and Thaïs (1894) for her to exploit the extraordinary range of her v. (g–g″). Saint-Saëns wrote Phryné (1893) for her. CG début 1891, NY Met 1895, but was never as successful as in Paris. Fine actress and very beautiful.
