Lothar, Mark (b Berlin, 1902; d Munich 1985). Ger. composer. Worked as accomp. to singers in 1920s. Mus. dir. in Berlin and Munich 1933–56. Wrote operas Tyll (1928), Lord Spleen (based on Jonson's Epicoene, as was Strauss's Die schweigsame Frau) (1930), Münchhausen (1933), Rappelkopf (1958). Also choral works, chamber mus., pf. pieces, and many songs.
