d Adelaide, 1987). Austrian-born conductor (Australian cit. 1944), brother of Josef
Krips. Cond. début Vienna Burgtheater 1932. Cond. Innsbruck 1933–4; Salzburg 1934–5; Vienna 1935–8. Emigrated to Australia 1938 and formed Krips-de Vries Opera Co. Prin. cond. W. Australia SO 1948–72 and S. Australia SO 1949–72. Worked for Australian Broadcasting Commission. Lived in London from 1972. Cond. at SW from 1967, mainly operetta.
