Kovacevich, Stephen [ Stephen Bishop-Kovacevich] (b Los Angeles, 1940). Amer. pianist and conductor of Yugoslav parentage, living in Eng. Début 1951 (San Francisco). Brit. début Wigmore Hall, 1961. Dedicatee and first player of Richard Rodney Bennett's conc. (1968) and gave f.p of Tavener's (1979). Prof. of pf., RAM, from 1986. Took up cond. and frequently appears with Northern Sinfonia.
