Janssen, Herbert (b Cologne, 1892; d NY, 1965). Ger.-born baritone (Amer. cit. 1946). Début Berlin 1922 (Herod in Schreker's Der Schätzgraber). Member of Berlin State Opera 1922–38. CG 1926–39. Bayreuth 1930–7. Member of NY Met 1939–52. Singer of Wagnerian roles such as Gunther, Kothner, Amfortas, and Kurwenal, later in career Wotan and Sachs.
