Holmès, Augusta (Mary Anne)

Holmès, Augusta (Mary Anne) [ Augusta Holmes], (b Paris, 1847; d Paris, 1903). Fr. composer of Irish parentage. Pseudonym Hermann Zenta. Pupil of César Franck. Declined offer of marriage from Saint-Saëns and had three daughters by Catulle Mendès. Wrote syms., sym.-poems, 4 operas, and choral works.
