Member of trio with Hindemith and Feuermann 1930–4. Settled in London and USA. Duo with Lili Kraus 1935–40. Member of fest. pf. qt., Aspen, Colorado, 1951–65. Solo concert violinist from 1955. Cond. Netherlands Chamber Orch. 1955–78. Cond. Manchester Camerata 1977–9. Teacher at Juilliard Sch. of Mus. 1978–80, Curtis Inst. 1980–1, Manhattan Sch. of Mus., NY, from 1981.
