d Winchester, 1964). Eng. composer, teacher, and organist. Spent 1904–8 in It. and Ger. on Mendelssohn Scholarship. From 1908–37 was mus. master at a succession of Eng. schs. incl. Rugby, Wellington, and Winchester (1924–37). Taught at RCM becoming dir. 1937–52. Comps. incl.
