ultracentrifugation Centrifugation carried out at high rotor speeds (up to 75 000 rpm) and therefore under high centrifugal forces (up to 750 000 g). Analytical ultracentrifuges are employed to determine the mass and to some extent the shape of molecules; preparative ultracentrifuges are used to separate the components of mixtures on the bases of these parameters.
