monoecious Applied to an organism in which separate male and female organs occur on the same individual (e.g. to a plant which bears male and female reproductive structures in the same flower or separate male and female flowers on the same plant. Some authors restrict the term to plants with separate male and female flowers; plants that bear male and female reproductive organs in the same flower are then called hermaphrodite. See also
