chromatid
chromatid One of the two daughter strands of a
chromosome that has undergone division during
interphase. Chromatids are joined together by a single
centromere, usually positioned in the centre of the pair as they lie beside one another. When the centromere divides at
anaphase of
mitosis or anaphase II of
meiosis, the sister chromatids become separate chromosomes.
