Dipterocarpaceae A family of resinous trees in which the leaves are simple, alternate, and stipulate. There are 5 twisted sepals and petals, and 5–10 stamens, and the ovary is superior and trilocular. The fruit is a nut seated in the persistent calyx, with several sepals enlarged as wings. There are 16 genera, with about 530 species found in the Old World tropics. They are abundant in the lowland rain forests of western Malesia, where there are many very lofty species.
