Cannabidaceae A small plant family, closely related to Moraceae (but differing from it mainly in having its floral parts in fives), of herbs without latex that have lobed, stipulate leaves, and small, dioecious flowers borne in axillary clusters. The perianth is pentamerous, there are 5 stamens, and the ovary is unilocular, with 2 stigmas. The flowers are wind-pollinated. The fruit is a small nutlet. Cannabis produces the fibre hemp and also a narcotic drug. (Its cultivation is now illegal in many countries.) Humulus, a climbing plant, is used to flavour beers. There are 2 genera, Cannabis (hemp) and Humulus (hop), of northern temperate distribution.
