specialist registrar n. (in a hospital) a registered doctor who undergoes a training programme in a chosen specialty in order to obtain a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training and be eligible to apply for a consultant post. The post of specialist registrar replaced those of registrar and senior registrar.
