nuchal (new-kăl) adj. relating to the nape of the neck.
n. fold the fold of skin at the back of the neck of the fetus.
n. translucency scanning a screening test performed during pregnancy at 11 weeks of gestation that measures the thickness of the translucent area overlying the neck region of the spine of the fetus, as observed on ultrasound scanning. Increased thickness is associated with an increased risk of chromosomal abnormalities and structural (e.g. heart) defects. See also
